Baby Eczema on Skin of Colour
BABY ECZEMA LOOKS DIFFERENT ON EVERY SKIN TONE
EVERY BABY DESERVES TO BE COMFORTABLE IN THEIR OWN SKIN
Studies have shown that eczema is more common in children with dark brown and black skin tones compared to those with paler, caucasian skin.1 Experts believe it may be underdiagnosed due to lack of awareness and lack of education.2

WHAT IS ECZEMA?
A skin condition that usually appears as an itchy red or dark brown patch. Eczema can show up on many different areas of the skin.
LIFE WITH ECZEMA
Nearly 25% of all children have eczema, and about half of children outgrow it. A soothing skin regime can help break the cycle of dry skin.
COMMON ECZEMA TRIGGERS FOR BABIES
Extreme temperatures
Irritants like soaps and detergents
Allergens such as dust mites, mould, and pet dander
BABY ECZEMA IN DARK BROWN AND BLACK SKIN TONES
Areas of eczema may appear darker than the rest of the skin, looking purple, ashen grey or dark brown.
BABY ECZEMA IN LIGHT BROWN AND OLIVE SKIN TONES
On tanned skin tones, dry and eczema prone skin can look dark red and brown.
BABY ECZEMA IN WHITE AND PALER SKIN TONES
On paler skin tones, eczema can look very red and inflamed.
ECZEMA ON FACE
Discovered eczema on your baby’s face? Fear not. It typically appears on the forehead and cheeks. Protect your baby’s face with a rich moisturising cream or balm.
MOISTURISING TIP
Apply moisturiser to your baby's damp skin within 3 minutes after their bath.
STOP THE SCRATCH
To prevent your baby from scratching, keep their nails clipped or put on cotton mittens while they sleep.
SKIN DISCOLORATION FOR BABIES
A major concern for non-white eczema is the discoloration of skin that can last for months, even after the eczema is treated. It’s important to diagnose and treat eczema early in all skin tones.
CONSULTING A HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL
f you need to speak to a HCP about your baby's skin, make sure you tell them everything about their symptoms. This will support them to make an accurate diagnosis and recommend suitable treatments.
